Rather than a traditional 'tea', rooibos is actually made from the leaves of a South African shrub known as 'red bush'. The green variety is unfermented, and said to have higher levels of antioxidants than the red. Scientists are still unravelling the complex constituents and health benefits of rooibos, but so far it's known for: protection and recovery of the heart and cardiovascular system, weight loss, slowing the rate of some cancers, boosting the body's natural antioxidant defense system, inhibiting skin cancer, improved blood pressure and circulation, treats and prevents diabetes and supports bone health. There's still more to discover about rooibos, but with so many health benefits already identified, it's time to make it a daily staple.
